typography

there is no typography, only queer acts of reading & writing

Paul Solellis, What is queer typography?

Like Paul describes in his zine, I have also been looking for queer typography - searching for other histories, other ways of doing design that don’t follow what is expected or what is considered meaningful or successful.

This exploration is actually part of why ‘neuro*’ developed - and chronic cultural work! More coming soon.

Enjoy my experimentation with designing typography and chronic influences below [and now throughout the site, with my ‘chronically’ font]!

chronic influences

pink paper with black and white AIDS activism images on each side, calligraphy that says "there is no queer typography, only queer acts of reading and writing." and "what is queer typography?" on the right. There is writing and highlighting all over.

Paul Solellis, who founded queer.archive.work in Providence, RI (coincidentally 10 minutes from where I used to live!), wrote this awesome zine and continues to support queer writing, reading, and art. Check out queer.archive.work at this link.

This typeset poster for the ACT UP protest font was created by Be Oakley, the founder of GenderFail - a publishing initiative that embraces the queer art of failure and the messiness of collaboration. Check out their other protest fonts.
